Wired/Wireless:

When using ISO compliant tags, a “Hand Held” for Fort Supply means a two part system comprised of a rugged hand held PC and FaST software linked wireless (Bluetooth) or by wired serial to a hand wand reader or panel reader of the ISO tag. A wired serial connection is also an option with FaST products. Fort Supply also offers an ISO compliant RFID reader integrated with the hand held PC.

When using FaST TAG, the long range management tag and reader system, the Fort Supply reader links to the hand held PC using reliable Bluetooth.

Additional Hardware Required:

For the ISO 134KHz tags, the hand held PC and FaST programs interface with all major hand wand and panel readers. Commercial users have the choice of two powerful software programs for the hand held PC:

- FaST EID for completed field data capture and animal management

-FaST AGE-SOURCE for data capture compliant with Age-Source value added programs.

For the long range active FaST TAG, Fort Supply has developed FaST TRACK which can discover and manage thousands of tags on animals individually or as groups. Individual animal record keeping is a standard feature.

Hardware Required to Enable:

ISO type tags field applications: Rugged hand held PCs running either Windows Mobile 5 or 6 OS interfacing with most of the popular hand wand and panel readers. An RFID reader integrated with the hand held PC is also available.

ISO type tags auction applications: Rugged hand held PCs or any desk top or notebook running XP or newer OS also interfacing with most of the popular hand wand or panel readers. An RFID reader integrated with the hand held PC is also available.

Power:

All hand held PCs have rechargeable, replaceable batteries with a life of 8 to 10 hours. Battery replacement takes less than one minute.

All data is backup such that even during a loss of power the data is protected and restored when power is reapplied either through replacement of a battery or plugged in to an AC/DC outlet.

Added Features:

The hand held PC with FaST EID interfaces with:

-all major scale heads,

-RFID wand and panel readers,

-Optional integrated RIFD reader eliminating the need for separate device,

-Interfaces wireless (BT) with either a rugged weather proof thermal label (1”x2”) or 8.5 inch wide printers. Labels are water proof and adhere to all surfaces including wet.

All communication with peripheral devices is set up once and then easily used hence forth by the user.

For reading all ISO compliant tags, FaST EID or FaST Age-Source runs on a rugged hand held PC and interfaces will all major hand wand and panel readers. The 15 digit EID number is immediately transferred from the wand or panel to the hand held PC where the user can then associate additional information to the EID such as sex, color, breed, date. Other information may also be added such as the status of the TB, BVD, Brucellosis testing, vaccinations, preg check or any other information relevant to the animal. All input fields are fully user customizable. Multiple fields may be printed real time to a rugged barcode printer containing the primary 15 EID. Weight from the scale or temperature from the Bio-Thermo life chip can also be captured electronically without human error. A back up or primary integrated RFID reader may also be configured on the rugged hand held device giving the user the maximum flexibility in capturing and managing data on the animals.

For reading long range FaST TAGS, the tags are “discovered” when the reader is pointed in the direction of the tags. Signal strength of each tag is actively displayed on the hand held PC allowing the user to select an animal and by following the strongest digital signal, displayed as similar to bars as on a cell phone,  the user can quickly locate any animal or animals with a FaST TAG up to ˝ mile line of sight.

A stationary version is used in feedlots and open range management and tracking of animals providing greater range and resolution. A patent pending owned by Fort Supply Technologies describes how the health of animals is derived and managed from the observation of their behavior using active long range RIFD tags.
